The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be entering the competitive circuit anytime soon. Dive into the details surrounding Pokémon TCG Pocket's competitive future and explore the possible reasons behind this decision.
Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join Pokémon’s competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, Chris Brown, shared that while they are always evaluating potential additions to the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not slated for inclusion at this time.
Brown humorously referenced "Pokemon Sleep," pointing to a previous April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. He clarified, "But at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
Although no official reasons have been provided for why Pokémon TCG Pocket won't be entering the competitive scene soon, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy with only four months of operation and just two sets released.
Despite the inclusion of competitive features since its launch, the community has raised concerns about balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket, being a simplified version of the traditional Pokémon card game, focuses on a more beginner-friendly experience rather than fostering a competitive environment.
Meanwhile, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit continues to thrive with events featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all set to be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
