Niantic has unveiled exciting details about the Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, set to kick off on January 29 and run through February 2. This event promises players the chance to catch Lucky Pokemon, Shiny Pokemon, and enjoy other thrilling rewards. Much like the ongoing Fashion Week event, participants can earn extra bonuses by completing Field Research tasks during the Lunar New Year celebration.
As Pokemon GO celebrates its ninth anniversary in 2025, the beloved AR game is gearing up for a series of new events and updates, leading up to summer and the much-anticipated Pokemon GO Fest. Among these is the Pokemon GO Tour: Unova, slated for Los Angeles and New Taipei City from February 21 to 23, with a global event following in March. Before diving into the Unova excitement, players can enrich their collections with new Pokemon during the Lunar New Year event.
The Pokemon GO Lunar New Year event will run from Wednesday, January 29, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. Niantic has promised an increased chance of getting Lucky Pokemon through trades during the event, along with a higher likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends, enhancing the odds of obtaining Lucky Pokemon. Players will encounter Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini more frequently in the wild, with a boosted chance of encountering their Shiny variants. Additionally, 2 km Eggs will hatch into Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi throughout the event.
Lunar New Year-themed Field Research and Timed Research tasks, along with Routes, will be available, rewarding players with Stardust, XP, and encounters with event-themed Pokemon. By participating in Routes, players can collect Zygarde Cells. For those eager to maximize their rewards, the event-exclusive Paid Timed Research, priced at $2, offers two Lucky Eggs, an incubator, and encounters with Ekans and Nosepass. All rewards from Field Research and Timed Research must be claimed before February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time, encouraging players to redeem them promptly upon task completion.
Players can showcase their Lunar New Year Pokemon in Pokemon GO's PokeStop Showcases to earn additional rewards based on the showcase results, including item bundles. Niantic has also confirmed the availability of an event-themed Collection Challenge, which, when completed, grants extra Stardust for trading. This makes the Lunar New Year event particularly beneficial for frequent traders.
