Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay in Canada Due to Tariffs

Gamers worldwide let out a collective groan last week when the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows when?" This sudden change came after import tariffs implemented by President Trump sent financial markets into a tailspin, and the ripple effects have crossed borders. Nintendo Canada has also confirmed delays in pre-orders, dashing hopes of securing a console through cross-border purchases from relatives in Winnipeg.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada in a release to Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes a statement made to IGN by Nintendo of America on April 4, although the Canadian announcement omits any specific reference to the new tariffs.

Meanwhile, in other countries, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have gone live in the UK, where smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths have seen quick sell-outs, and scalpers are already listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly higher than the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
