Nintendo Reveals Pricey Switch 2 Upgrades for Kirby and Mario Games

Nintendo has announced the pricing for upgrading two popular Switch games to their Switch 2 Editions, Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is significantly higher than expected.

While upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch version to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild boasts improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service within the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on the Switch can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content called Star-Crossed World. Meanwhile, the Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree includes a new feature, Jamboree TV, which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Both games also offer upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available, possibly due to the uncertainty with President Trump's tariffs, the UK Nintendo eShop lists the upgrade pack for Kirby and the Forgotten Land at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade is priced similarly, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost may be linked to the $80 price tag of the full Switch 2 Editions of both Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which are $20 more expensive than their original Switch versions at $59.99 each.

It's worth noting that both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are available at no additional cost for Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Party Jamboree.

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date is not guaranteed due to high demand.
