Netflix Stories Cancelled: Still Playable!

Netflix has made the surprising decision to officially close the chapter on its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief yet intriguing experiment in narrative gaming. Despite having a solid player base, Netflix has chosen to discontinue this line of entertainment. So, what led to the cancellation of Netflix Stories? Let's dive in to uncover the full story!

The decision was first reported by Variety and is part of a larger strategic pivot at Netflix Games. Moving forward, the focus will shift to mobile titles that include party games, children's games, mainstream releases, and other interactive experiences designed for TV play.

Despite the cancellation, Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind the Netflix Stories series, will continue to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, including the highly anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.

Is Netflix Stories Shutting Down?

Despite receiving mixed reviews, Netflix Stories consistently held a strong position among the most-played titles on Netflix Games, currently ranking fourth in the top 10 carousel, which measures player engagement by playtime rather than downloads.

Looking ahead, the final interactive title under the Netflix Stories banner will be Love Is Blind: NYC. After its rollout, no new games will be developed under this brand. This announcement follows closely on the heels of the Netflix Stories app teasing its next game, The Love Contract, slated for an April 8th release. Unlike its predecessors, The Love Contract was an original romance narrative, not tied to any existing Netflix IP. It followed the story of an actress entangled in a complex love triangle involving a Hollywood star and a billionaire, set amidst a backdrop of fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this project has been shelved.

While new developments have ceased, the existing catalog of Netflix Stories games will remain accessible. Fans can continue to enjoy titles such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple. However, planned sequels for popular series like Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been canceled.

So, there you have it—the full scoop on why Netflix Stories is being discontinued! If you're a fan of Netflix shows and haven't yet explored these games, you can still find them on the Google Play Store.
