Player First Games has officially announced that Season 5 of MultiVersus will mark the end of the Warner Bros. platform fighting game, with the final curtain falling on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio shared this news through a blog post on their website, signaling the conclusion of support for the crossover brawler that initially launched on May 28 of the previous year. Season 5 is set to kick off next week on February 4 and will run until the game's closure in May 2025. At that point, online play will cease, but Player First has assured players that all earned and purchased content will remain accessible offline through local gameplay and training modes.
Expressing gratitude, a message from the MultiVersus team stated, "Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

Player First also announced that real-money transactions for MultiVersus have been discontinued as of today, though players can still use Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until the end of support on May 30. Additionally, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.
The decision to end MultiVersus comes after it was labeled a significant disappointment for Warner Bros. Discovery. During a financial call in November, the company disclosed that MultiVersus fell short of expectations, leading to a $100 million writedown in its games sector. This added to a total of $300 million in losses following the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Just last week, Variety reported that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad would be stepping down following a challenging 2024.
"We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” stated chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels during the November call.
Despite the closure announcement coming just days before the game's one-year anniversary, Season 5 promises to go out with a flourish. Alongside the usual seasonal content updates, new characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman will join the roster. Lola Bunny, a Looney Tunes icon, will be unlockable through a daily calendar reward starting next week, while the DC superhero Aquaman will be available via the battle pass.
