Monster Hunter Wilds Player Count Plummets, MH World Slowly Catching Up

The excitement surrounding Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) has taken a noticeable dip, with its player count experiencing a significant decline. Initially hailed as Capcom's fastest-selling game upon its release, MH Wilds has seen its concurrent player numbers plummet within three months. This shift brings its player base closer to that of the older but still popular Monster Hunter World (MH World).

As pointed out by the popular Monster Hunter YouTuber Zenny, MH Wilds' player count has halved since May. According to SteamDB, the game's 24-hour peak stands at 41,101 players, which is not far from MH World's current peak of 26,479 players. To put this into perspective, MH World enjoyed over 100,000 concurrent players in its third month on Steam, a stark contrast to MH Wilds' current 40,000. The decline is often attributed to a perceived lack of endgame content in MH Wilds, even after the release of Title Update 1. However, with the second Title Update slated for this summer, featuring new monsters, events, and more, there's hope that MH Wilds will see a resurgence in its player base.

MH Wilds x Street Fighter Collab Teased

Adding to the anticipation, a potential collaboration with Capcom's iconic Street Fighter series has been teased. On May 19, Monster Hunter's official Twitter (X) account posted an image featuring a paw mark styled after Street Fighter 6's urban aesthetic. While no details have been officially confirmed, such a collaboration wouldn't be unprecedented. The previous crossover between MH World and Street Fighter brought exciting content like Ryu and Sakura armor sets, along with paid DLC such as Hadoken and Shoryuken gestures, and the Handler's Chun-Li Costume.

This would be MH Wilds' first collaboration, and fans are eager to see how Capcom will execute this crossover event. The Monster Hunter series has a rich history of collaborations with various IPs, including Devil May Cry and Sonic for MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for MH Gen U, and Assassin's Creed and Megaman for MH World, among others.

Despite the current dip in player numbers, the future looks bright for MH Wilds with upcoming updates and the teased collaboration. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates on Monster Hunter Wilds, be sure to check out our detailed article below!
