Michael Douglas Unlikely to Return as Hank Pym in Ant-Man

Author:Kristen Update:May 25,2025

Michael Douglas, renowned for his role as Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Ant-Man series, has expressed that his time with the MCU may be over. Douglas has featured in four major films, including all three Ant-Man movies and Avengers: Endgame, with his latest appearance in the 2023 release, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Despite the buzz around the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, Douglas seems unlikely to reprise his role as the shrinking scientist.

Play"I don't think so," Douglas shared with Deadline, when asked about returning for another Marvel project. "I had the experience, and I was excited to do it." Having largely stepped back from acting, with Marvel films being his most recent big-screen roles, Douglas is now focusing on his production work, where he has over a dozen credits to his name.

Reflecting on his time with Marvel, Douglas mentioned the novelty of working on green screen projects. "I'd never done a green screen picture before," he said. "But I'm enjoying my hiatus and enjoying my life. It was overwhelming running the production company and acting at the same time."

Douglas had previously expressed a wish for Hank Pym to meet a dramatic end in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, believing it would add depth to his character's journey and raise the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man. However, Marvel opted for a different direction for Pym's storyline.

The underwhelming box office results of Quantumania have cast doubts on the future of the Ant-Man franchise, though Paul Rudd is confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday. As for the rest of the Ant-Man family, including Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne, their return seems uncertain. In June 2024, Lilly announced her departure from acting to prioritize her family, diminishing the chances of her character, Wasp, appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.

As anticipation builds for Avengers: Doomsday, recent leaks from the set have hinted at the return of a surprising location from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, sparking curiosity and speculation among fans about what the film will bring.
