Amazon is canceling pre-orders for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and reaching out to customers via email. Read on to learn more about the game's future and whether this impacts its release in 2025.

On January 11, 2025, several users on Reddit, Resetera, and other online forums reported that Amazon was canceling their Metroid Prime 4 pre-orders. According to screenshots shared online, Amazon notified customers that their pre-orders were canceled "due to a lack of availability." Despite the disappointing news, Amazon assured them that the reservation charge would be refunded within 1-2 business days.

This news has left some Metroid fans disappointed, especially those who had pre-ordered the game since its initial announcement at E3 2017. However, the cancellation of pre-orders on Amazon does not indicate that the game has been canceled; it simply means it is no longer available for pre-order on this platform.

Metroid Prime 4 was first announced at E3 2017, with Nintendo revealing that Retro Studios, the developer of previous Metroid titles, would not be involved. At that time, Nintendo did not disclose the identity of the developer working on this new installment.
Two years later, in January 2019, Nintendo announced a significant change: development had been restarted under Retro Studios. In a YouTube video, senior managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi explained that "the current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series."

Fast forward to June 2024, Nintendo unveiled a full gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4 at the end of its Nintendo Direct, confirming a 2025 release window and revealing the game's full title, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The trailer introduced the antagonist, Sylux, leading a group of Space Pirates in an unnamed facility.
More recently, Nintendo reaffirmed the 2025 release window for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in a news post on January 3, 2025. Despite Amazon's pre-order cancellation causing some concern among fans, this post confirms that the game is still on track for release this year.
With the upcoming announcement of the Switch 2, there's still uncertainty about whether Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will launch on the original Switch or its successor. Only time will tell.
