Author:Kristen Update:May 01,2025

The wildly popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is making waves on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer, NetEase, has been steadfast in their decision not to bring the game to the original Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans eager to dive into the action. But there's a glimmer of hope with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to discuss this very topic with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. The news is promising for Switch enthusiasts: a release on the Nintendo Switch 2 seems to be on the table.

Wu shared, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."

PlayThe Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled just last month. While specifics about its capabilities are still under wraps, it's shaping up to be a more robust and powerful iteration of the beloved Nintendo Switch. One intriguing feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, bringing it closer to a PC-like feel. However, the exact implementation remains to be seen.

The Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have a confirmed release date yet, but fans can look forward to a Nintendo Direct on April 2 for more information. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received high praise. In our 8/10 review, we noted that it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." Excitingly, The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21.
