Author:Kristen Update:May 07,2025

The upcoming smartphone adaptation of the eagerly awaited hack 'n slash extraction dungeon crawler, currently known as Dark and Darker Mobile, may be in for a significant transformation. Recent reports indicate that Krafton is not only considering a name change for the game but is also terminating its agreement with Ironmace Studio.

This development comes at a challenging time for Ironmace, who have recently been mandated to pay $6 million in damages to Nexon following a lawsuit. The lawsuit stems from Nexon's allegations that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized trade secrets to develop Dark and Darker, which was purportedly based on a cancelled project codenamed P3.

Despite Krafton's assertion that the name change is unrelated to the lawsuit's ruling, they have also announced the termination of their global licensing agreement with Ironmace. This means that Dark and Darker Mobile, or its eventual new moniker, will proceed as a fully standalone release.

Darkest of dungeonsThe ethical implications of this lawsuit are complex, yet it's noteworthy that Ironmace initially filed a suit against Nexon for copyright infringement. Despite the termination of their partnership, Krafton appears poised to rebrand and continue forward with the project. This situation underscores the opening of floodgates for similar genre releases in the mobile gaming market.

For fans eagerly awaiting Dark and Darker Mobile, this news is not necessarily detrimental. Krafton has confirmed their intention to adhere to the previously announced global release schedule. However, should there be any changes or further developments in this story, we will keep you informed.

We hope that the full launch of Dark and Darker Mobile will uphold the exceptional quality that we highlighted in our review.
