Author:Kristen Update:May 12,2025

Michael Sarnoski, acclaimed director of A Quiet Place: Day One, is set to helm the live-action adaptation of Kojima Productions' Death Stranding. According to Deadline, Sarnoski will both write and direct the project, which is being produced by A24 and Kojima Productions in collaboration with Square Peg. Sarnoski's previous works include the A Quiet Place spin-off Day One and the 2021 film Pig, starring Nicolas Cage. He is also attached to write and direct The Death of Robin Hood, another A24 production.

PlayWhile specifics about the *Death Stranding* live-action adaptation remain under wraps, the 2019 game itself is ripe for cinematic translation. It features a post-apocalyptic world where players, as Sam Bridges (played by Norman Reedus), work to reconnect a fragmented America amidst an extinction-level event, battling nightmarish creatures and navigating mysterious occurrences. The game's inherent cinematic quality, bolstered by Hideo Kojima's directorial flair, makes it an exciting prospect for film adaptation.

The original Death Stranding boasted a stellar cast including Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. It remains to be seen whether these actors will return for the live-action version.

In addition to the film, fans have more to look forward to, as Kojima Productions has confirmed that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will launch on June 26, 2025, for PlayStation 5. This sequel will introduce new stars such as Luca Marinelli and Elle Fanning to the franchise.

As the Death Stranding movie progresses, it joins other Kojima-related projects in development, including the long-awaited Metal Gear Solid film. With its rich narrative and star power, Death Stranding is well-positioned to make a compelling transition to the big screen.
