Confront Wakasa or Otama: Best Strategy in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Author:Kristen Update:May 25,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice carries significant weight, but the decision to confront either Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission will shape the rest of your campaign. Both characters present compelling reasons for suspicion, yet there's a clear choice that simplifies your path through this quest.

Should You Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

After the tea ceremony, the optimal decision is to confront Wakasa, as she is indeed the Golden Teppo of the Onryo. Identifying her early leads to the most straightforward resolution of the mission. When you confront Wakasa, she invites Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Once inside, a subtle clue—the kasa (straw hat) she wore during the prologue as the Onryo—confirms your choice. After some dialogue, Naoe can swiftly end the mission by taking Wakasa’s Teppo from the wall and shooting her at point-blank range.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

If you mistakenly target Otama after the tea ceremony, you'll still be able to eliminate Wakasa, but your path will be significantly more challenging. Confronting Otama leads Naoe to chase and kill her, and while a letter on Otama reveals her own corruption, this choice allows Wakasa to escape and fortify herself in Osaka Castle with her soldiers.

To reach Wakasa, you'll need to journey to Osaka Castle, either fighting through her soldiers or attempting to sneak past them. If you've unlocked the Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, you can get closer, though you'll still encounter some enemies. Even if you manage to sneak up on Wakasa, a direct confrontation is inevitable. The ensuing boss fight isn't overly difficult, but choosing to confront Wakasa directly from the start avoids unnecessary complications and offers a more cinematic and satisfying kill, especially considering her role in Naoe's father's death.

Now that you understand the best course of action following the Tea Ceremony mission, consider learning how to gain XP and level up quickly in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* to prepare for the game's more demanding challenges. Additionally, explore strategies to earn more Knowledge Points, unlocking further skills for Naoe and Yasuke.
