Chrono Trigger Marks 30 Years with Multiple Releases Planned

Author:Kristen Update:May 24,2025

Square Enix has proudly announced that the iconic JRPG, Chrono Trigger, has reached its 30-year milestone. To celebrate this significant anniversary, the company has teased various projects set to be released throughout the next year. While details about these projects remain under wraps, the phrasing suggests they might extend beyond the game itself, possibly encompassing new merchandise, collaborations, or even a long-awaited remaster or console release.

This announcement has ignited excitement and speculation among fans, many of whom have been eagerly anticipating a modern version of this beloved classic. Although Chrono Trigger has been ported to PC and mobile platforms over the years, a definitive, modern console release has remained elusive. The game, widely regarded as one of the greatest JRPGs ever created, has never received a full-fledged remake or even a PlayStation re-release beyond the PS1 port back in 1999.

In the meantime, fans can look forward to a special anniversary event—a livestream concert featuring the game's legendary soundtrack. This concert will be available to watch on YouTube on March 14th, starting at 7:00 p.m. PT and continuing into the early hours of the next morning.

For those new to Chrono Trigger, it's an epic time-traveling RPG developed by a dream team that includes Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest mastermind Yuji Horii, and the legendary Dragon Ball artist Akira Toriyama. Originally released in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows protagonist Crono and his companions as they journey across different eras—from a prehistoric world filled with dinosaurs to a dystopian future dominated by an alien force. Along the way, players recruit allies, manipulate history, and face one of gaming's most iconic final bosses.

As Chrono Trigger marks its 30th anniversary, Square Enix's statement keeps the door open for future announcements, fueling hope for a remake or console port. Fans are encouraged to stay updated by following the official Chrono Trigger X page.
