Author:Kristen Update:May 13,2025

The classic role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has been resurrected for PC users, marking a remarkable return 25 years after its initial debut. Originally launched on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, followed by a European release a year later, the game also saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. The game centers on Ryu, a protagonist with the unique ability to transform into a dragon, who joins forces with other warriors to thwart an emperor's apocalyptic ambitions.

In a significant move under its Preservation Program, GOG has meticulously updated Breath of Fire IV for today's PC environments. This DRM-free release on GOG's platform ensures compatibility with modern systems, including Windows 10 and 11. The game now boasts enhanced graphics thanks to an upgraded DirectX renderer, and includes new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for superior visuals. Additionally, the audio has been revamped, with missing environmental sounds restored and new configuration options introduced, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
