Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 12,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to the iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, setting the stage in 16th-century Japan with protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. With over 30 games in the franchise, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries for this ranking, leaving out mobile, side-scrolling, VR, and spin-offs such as Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to relive the life of his ancestor, Altaïr. Now, 18 years later, Assassin's Creed Shadows marks the 14th core installment in the series. I've taken the liberty of ranking these games based on my personal enjoyment using an IGN Tier List. Here's how they stack up:

In my view, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains the pinnacle of the series, securing a spot in the S-tier. The blend of island exploration, ship combat, and a vibrant cast creates an unparalleled AC experience. Joining it in the S-tier is Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly propelled the series into the spotlight. I've also placed Valhalla in the A-tier, which might be controversial to some, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame. Alongside it is Unity, whose depiction of Revolutionary Paris remains visually impressive even a decade later.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or believe Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated? Feel free to create your own tier list below and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
