Elden Ring DLC Helps FromSoftware Bounce Back After Major CyberattackEl 27 de junio, el grupo de hackers Black Suits afirmó haber lanzado un ciberataque contra Kadokawa Corporation, la empresa matriz de FromSoftware, y haber robado una gran cantidad de datos, incluidos planes comerciales e información relacionada con los usuarios. Kadokawa confirmó el 3 de julio que la filtración involucró información personal de todos los empleados de Dwango, documentos internos y datos de empleados de algunas empresas afiliadas.

Según Gamebiz, la violación de seguridad sufrida por Kadokawa causó a la empresa aproximadamente 2 mil millones de yenes (aproximadamente 13 millones de dólares estadounidenses) en pérdidas, lo que resultó en una caída interanual del 10,1% en el beneficio neto. No obstante, Kadokawa logró sólidos resultados financieros en el primer trimestre de su año fiscal que finalizó el 30 de junio de 2024. Este es el primer informe financiero publicado por Kadokawa desde que un ciberataque a gran escala interrumpió muchos de los servicios de la empresa el 8 de junio.

Afortunadamente, las actividades comerciales ya se han reanudado por completo. En el ámbito de las publicaciones y la creación de propiedad intelectual, se espera que los envíos de publicaciones afectadas se recuperen gradualmente en agosto y que los envíos diarios vuelvan a la normalidad a mediados de agosto. Algunos de los principales servicios de red afectados también están a punto de reanudar sus operaciones normales.

El desempeño del departamento de juegos electrónicos de la compañía aumentó significativamente, con ventas que alcanzaron los 7,764 mil millones de yenes, un aumento interanual del 80,2%, y las ganancias ordinarias aumentaron un 108,1%. Este buen desempeño se debió principalmente al "Ring of Elden" y su DLC "Shadow of the Eldur Tree", que supuso un gran impulso para el departamento de juegos.
