Threads of Time wurde während des Xbox Showcase auf der Tokyo Game Show 2024 offiziell enthüllt. Dieses 2,5D-Rollenspiel ist von klassischen Spielen wie Chrono Trigger und Final Fantasy inspiriert. Es wurde vom unabhängigen Studio Riyo Games entwickelt und befindet sich derzeit in der Entwicklung für PC-Spieler auf den Plattformen Xbox Series X/S und Steam. Ein konkreter Veröffentlichungstermin für Threads of Time wurde noch nicht bekannt gegeben, ebenso wenig wie PS5- oder Nintendo Switch-Versionen.

Obwohl es sich um ein neu angekündigtes Spiel handelt, wird erwartet, dass Threads of Time als spirituelle Fortsetzung der klassischen Chrono-Serie von Square Enix bereits mit dem von der Kritik gefeierten RPG Star Ocean aus dem Jahr 2023 mithalten kann. Dieses Spiel ist das erste rundenbasierte Spiel im Retro-Stil von Riyo Games und steckt voller nostalgischem Charme.

„Die Vision von Riyo Games ist es, Rollenspiele zu entwickeln, die Retro-Elemente integrieren und bei den Spielern wertvolle Kindheitserinnerungen wecken“, teilte das Studio in seiner Pressemitteilung mit. „Alles begann mit einem Versprechen zweier Kinder, die sich nach der Schule an einen Röhrenfernseher kuschelten und Rollenspiele spielten und davon träumten, eines Tages gemeinsam Abenteuer voller Fantasie und Geschichten zu erleben.“

Mit 2,5D-Pixelkunst ermöglicht „Threads of Time“ den Spielern, als Gruppe unverwechselbarer Charaktere aus verschiedenen Epochen zu spielen und sich auf ein Fantasy-Abenteuer durch verschiedene historische Epochen zu begeben. Die Geschichte des Spiels erstreckt sich über Jahrhunderte – vom „Zeitalter der Dinosaurier bis zum Zeitalter der mechanischen Roboter“ – und führt die Spieler letztendlich dazu, eine Verschwörung aufzudecken, die „das Gefüge der Zeit selbst“ betrifft. Neben Pixel-Art-Grafiken bietet Threads of Time auch fortschrittliche animierte Zwischensequenzen, die die komplizierte Handlung des Spiels veranschaulichen. Chr., und einen klingenschwingenden Krieger aus dem Jahr 2400 n. Chr., den Fuchsdämon Rin und so weiter .
