Mit dem Kinostart des Thunderbolts-Films bereitet Marvel Comics den Abschied einer Version dieses ikonischen Superteams vor, während gleichzeitig ein völlig neues Kapitel beginnt. Doch hier kommt die Überraschung: In Anlehnung an den Schockmove von Marvel Studios, die Thunderbolts nach dem Eröffnungswochenende in "The New Avengers" umzubenennen, vollzieht der Comic-Bereich dieselbe kühne Neupositionierung. Nun müssen Antihelden wie Carnage, Clea und Wolverine beweisen, dass sie die Fußstapfen von Earth's Mightiest Heroes ausfüllen können.

Können Außenseiter zu Beschützern der Erde werden?

Autor Sam Humphries räumt ein, dass die Verwandlung dieser Schurken-Galerie in glaubwürdige Avengers seismisches Charakterwachstum erfordert. Seine Vision zeigt Marvels gefährlichste Außenseiter, die sich damit abmühen, auch nur annähernd wie ein traditionelles Superhelden-Team zu funktionieren.

Die Entstehung von Marvels kühner Wende

"Dies war keine spontane Entscheidung", verrät Humphries über die überraschende Neupositionierung im Einklang mit dem MCU. "Schon im ersten Gespräch mit Redakteurin Alanna Smith stellten wir uns die New Avengers vor, die nach anderen Regeln spielen." Das kreative Team bewahrte absolute Geheimhaltung und vermied sogar digitale Spuren mit dem neuen Seriennamen.

Humphries stellte seine Aufstellung gezielt zusammen – mit Marvels schlagkräftigsten aber problematischsten Figuren aus allen Veröffentlichungsbereichen:

  • Carnage (Spider-Familie)
  • Clea (Mystisches Reich)
  • Wolverine/X-23 (Mutanten)
  • Namor (Atlantis)
  • Hulk (Gamma-Kräfte)

Wenn Titanen aufeinandertreffen

"Die zwischenmenschliche Dynamik explodiert", beschreibt Humphries die explosive Teamchemie. "Das sind keine polierten Helden – sie sind von Wut getriebene Kraftpakete, die ihre schlimmsten Impulse kaum zügeln können." Früh brechen Konflikte aus: zwischen Cleas und Carnages gegensätzlichen Moralvorstellungen, Namors und X-23s unterschiedlichen Führungsstilen und Bucky Barnes' größter Herausforderung.

Die Killuminati-Bedrohung taucht auf

Zusätzlich zu ihren Problemen führt Humphries die Killuminati ein – erschreckend verdorbene Doppelgänger von Marvels legendärem Illuminati-Rat. Künstler Ton Lima verleiht der Story eine intensive Bildsprache, die an actionreiche Blockbuster erinnert.
