Hideo Kojima hat bekannt gegeben, dass er Margaret Qualley für die Rolle von Mama im Todestranding besetzt hat, nachdem er von ihrer Leistung in einer Spike -Jonze -Duftwerbung fasziniert war. Am 25. April teilte Kojima den viralen Werbespot auf Twitter und erklärte: "Ich habe das gesehen und ihr die Rolle von Mama (Lockne) bei Death Stranding angeboten."

Die Werbung zeigt Qualley, die zu einem pulsierenden Tanzstrack tanzt, der an Fat Boy Slims ikonische "Weapon of Choice" -Video erinnert, in dem Christopher Walken die Hauptrolle spielte. Qualley's Darstellung von Mama-Målings-im Tod zeigt sie als zentrales Mitglied von Bridges, einem der größten Wissenschaftler von Geräten in den Vereinigten Städten Amerikas. Neben ihrer Zwillingsschwester, Lockkne, ebenfalls von Qualley gespielt, entwickelte sie das chirale Netzwerk, ein entscheidendes Kommunikationsnetzwerk, das die sofortige Datenübertragung für Brücken erleichtert.
