Guillermo del Toros lebenslange Faszination für Frankenstein hat selbst den Schöpfer der Kreatur. Eine kürzlich durchgeführte Netflix -Vorschau zeigte einen ersten Blick auf seine mit Spannung erwartete Adaption mit Oscar Isaac als Victor Frankenstein. Während ein Trailer erst im Sommer veröffentlicht wird, wurde ein Standbild enthüllt (siehe oben).

Del Toro gestand in einer Videobotschaft seine jahrzehntelange Besessenheit und erklärte: "Dieser Film habe mich seit meiner Kindheit in den Sinn gekommen-seit 50 Jahren. Ich habe 20 bis 25 Jahre lang versucht, ihn zu schaffen. Tatsächlich denken einige Leute vielleicht sogar, dass ich ein wenig von Frankenstein besessen bin." Er deutete auf seine umfangreiche Frankenstein -Sammlung in seinem engagierten "Frankenstein -Zimmer" im Bleak House.

Kurz gezeigtes Filmmaterial (derzeit nicht online nicht verfügbar) enthielt Isaacs Victor, das Mia Goth mit einem wohlhabenden Aristokrat und Jacob Elordi als Frankensteins Monster darstellte-als langes schwarzes Haar, eine verankerte graue Haut und rot-abendete Augen.

Del Toro betonte ferner die persönliche Bedeutung des Projekts und sagte: "Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte hat der Charakter mit meiner Seele so verschmolzen, dass es zu einer Autobiographie geworden ist. Es wird nicht persönlicher als diese." Sein langjähriger Ehrgeiz, diese filmische Vision zum Leben zu erwecken, ist unbestreitbar, wie die langwierige Entwicklung des Films zeigt.
