Auction Bridge and International Bridge (IB) is a bridge card game variant. Evolving from bridge whist, it represents a significant step in the game's development, preceding contract bridge. Its lineage traces back to whist and bridge whist.
Auction Bridge & IB differs substantially from contract bridge in its trick, bonus, and penalty scoring systems. Crucially, the concept of vulnerability is absent.
Trump selection shares similarities with contract bridge, though the latter employs a more intricate process. Gameplay and rules largely mirror contract bridge.
The dealer initiates trump selection, committing to win at least the odd trick in a chosen trump suit or no-trump. Higher scoring contracts prioritize points (excluding doubles) over trick count. For instance, 3 Spades (27 points) trumps 4 Clubs (24 points).
Trick scoring beyond six is as follows:
- No-trump: 10 points
- Spades: 9 points
- Hearts: 8 points
- Diamonds: 7 points
- Clubs: 6 points
